What is PawPaw Fruit?

The pawpaw is a tropical-like fruit native to the forest fringes of the Midwest and parts of the South. Pawpaws were planted here 20 years ago as part of the search for varieties that might be commercially successful in Rhode Island. The fruit looks a little like a mango, with large, brown seeds surrounded by a lemon yellow, creamy flesh the consistency of a firm custard. The pawpaw has a tropical flavor, which is often described as a combination of mango, pineapple, and banana. This year our pawpaw crop is going to be awesome.

We will have pawpaws to sell at our stand on the following days in  the middle of September through the end of October:

Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00 pm, Saturdays, 9:00 am
$5 a pound for fresh pawpaws, 4 pound limit.

We will have the pawpaws bagged in 2 pound weighed amounts.

$10 for a bag of frozen pulp, limit 2 bags.
( It takes two pounds of fresh to make one pound of frozen pulp.)

We typically sell out in 20 minutes. Come early to hold your place in line. We generally have the most fruit the third week we are selling.
